The way you review cards can determine whether you will spend 5 minutes on Anki or 40. When you're reviewing Anki cards, you will have to grade them. If you recognize or think that you recognize and understand the target word of a sentence card, then grade your card as "good". Now, I flip through about 600-700 cards a day including the old cards to review. I set my cards to the max 9999 and then I let Anki do the work of figuring out what I need to review and when. So far I have 423 cards in my deck and I see about 50 a day.
